18 May 07 'terra firma' - Rock n Reel Review
WOLFSTONE
****
Terra Firma
(ONCE BITTEN RECORDS) www.wolfstone.co.uk
Scottish Celtic-rockers Wolfstone are back with a new album and new line-up. Says founder member Duncan Chisholm, “… we are a rock band from the Highlands of Scotland that happens to use pipes, whistles and pipes in our repertoire”. The band have taken their living, breathing and roaring version of the evolving folk tradition another step further, this time round largely eschewing the classic folk-rock stylings of yore, substituting a sharper, harder and more focused contemporary rock edge and helping them produce arguably their most commercial album to date.
New frontman, songwriter and producer Ross Hamilton, plus new back line – drummer Alyn Cosker and Colin Cunningham on bass – have injected youthful energy and drive to their sound. With songs like the searing guitar-and-rhythm-fired ‘Break Yer Bass Drone Again’ followed by the assured rock riffing of ‘These Are The Days’, this is clearly a band on a mission … to build on past glories and construct a new, grander and far more ambitious sound.
Which isn’t to say they could ever turn their backs on their traditional music roots, as their environment, background and love of the music is simply too strong. Consequently a full-blown aural assault is followed by a sweeping, atmospheric air, ‘The Bloody Bouzouki’, before moving off into a rip-roaring, barely restrained reading of Charlie McKerron’s ‘Paella Grande’.
Into this mix they throw the hugely impressive slice of grandiose pop-rock that is ‘Put Me Together’ and yet, to their credit, it sounds neither out of place nor pompous, instead suggesting an imagination and desire to continue to push themselves musically and the boundaries of expectation from their audiences. ‘By The Wayside’ gives another indication of their songwriting versatility and diversity of approach within the new line-up. Composed by drummer Alyn Cosker, the catchy, country-flavoured rocker is as commercial a track as any the new line-up have produced.
Attacking everything they do with a new found vigour and verve, the Stevie Saint pipe tune ‘3 am In Edradour’ that segues into closer ‘The List’ perfectly sums up their attitude – hard, heavy, no-nonsense rockin‘ ‘n’ reelin’.

23 Feb 07 - Runrig Support Confirmed
Following on from the success of our launch tour, we have just had confirmation that we will be given a supporting slot with our good friends Runrig at their large outdoor event this year. Entitled Beat the Drum, the concert will take place on Saturday 18 August 2007, at Borlum Farm, Drumnadrochit on the northern shores of Loch Ness.
The association with Runrig goes back to their concert at Loch Lomond, a concert that was to be the stepping stone for Wolfstone. It’s great that in the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture the two bands will once again share the same stage. Our thanks go to the Runrig guys and Regular Music for making it happen.

17 Feb. 07 - Launch Night Review
The latest Wolfstone incarnation goes wild
Published: 15 February, 2007
A 50 per cent injection of youth has added new zip to the sound of WOLFSTONE, back with a venueful of loyal, responsive fans to greet their album launch on home ground at the Ironworks, Inverness, on Friday. In some ways, not much has changed, though. And that is a good thing. It was easy to hear the strength of the more mature half of the line-up – Duncan Chisholm’s silky fiddle-playing, Stevie Saint’s rousing pipes and whistles and Stuart Eaglesham’s melodic guitar. But the energy of the younger members has brought something special. And blending the two halves, as they do, is no mean achievement for Wolfstone. In a set heavy with the tracks from new album Terra Firma, including top song Put Me Together Again, it was clear to see the performing strength of frontman Ross Hamilton, much of the material from the new album also being his work. Stuart Eaglesham’s guitar at the start of These Are The Days was beautiful and incredibly clear, thanks to on-the-ball soundmen. But it’s still in the instrumentals that will the limbs to dance, that Wolfstone have the power to set a venue alight.

07 Feb. 07 - Forum and MySpace
The problem with the nuisance posting on the forum has occurred again and the Band have decided to remove it from the site. Our office staff are inundated with complaints and this outweighs any benefits.
On a positive note our official MySpace is gaining momentum and we would encourage you all to be our ‘friends’ and join us at http://www.myspace.com/wolfstoneofficial.

11 Jan. 07 - Terra Firma – Album Launch
‘Terra Firma’ the hotly anticipated new album from Highland rock band Wolfstone will be launched at the band’s home town gig, The Ironworks on the 9th of February. The new album the eighth in the band’s history is already being tipped up to be their best creation to date.
Founder member ‘Duncan Chisholm’ said, we’re really pleased with the sound of the new album and feel it’s our best to date. There was no pressure on us time wise for this album and I think that shows in its quality. I’m really proud of this album and I think for once it gives us the true sound of Wolfstone. I think if I’m brutally honest this is something I could not have said about previous releases.
I’m also delighted with the contribution given by Ross Hamilton in producing this studio album “Ross’s contribution was not just restricted to vocals and guitar. He has written the majority of the material, arranged tracks and taken on the production role” He‘s a talented guy who is wanted by many in the business and we desperately want to keep hold of him. I can’t go into much detail about this at the moment, but he’s just recently been given a fantastic opportunity to progress his solo career and our manager is working hard to come up with a solution that will let him pursue both career paths. So it’s a very interesting and exiting time for all of us”
The venue for the launch will be held at The Ironworks, Inverness and will be followed by gigs in Perth, Aberdeen and Glasgow. In the past record label pressures have seen the band launch their album in the USA, but this was certainly not an option the band were going to consider during Highland 2007.
Band Manager, ‘Neil MacRae’ said, it’s no coincidence that we have chosen to launch our album in our home town of Inverness during Highland 2007. We were due to launch our album at the end of 2006 but decided to hold it back purposely. There a lot of great things happening in this area this year, including some fantastic music events, some of which we are involved in. Launching the album in Inverness is our way of showing our support to our hometown at the start of a very important year as Scotland celebrates culture in the Highlands.
The Scottish venues and dates are as follows:
9th February The Ironworks Inverness
10th February Perth Concert Hall Perth
16th February The Lemontree Aberdeen
17th February The Ferry Glasgow
